Gospel Centres International is a 21st Century evangelical and missional oriented ministry dedicated to advancing and enhancing God’s Kingdom in every nation of the world, in accordance with the command of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20. We have been called to; fulfil the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ with excellence. With the mandate to evangelize the world, GCI has a vision to plant churches in the 47 counties of Kenya by the year 2030 and a church in as many nations of the world as our Lord Jesus Christ will enable us to do before his return.
The genesis of GCI Utawala church was an outcome of the then GCI Board of Elders’ discussions which started in 2006 when the ministry became autonomous. The discussions culminated with a decision made in May 2010 to start the first branch of GCI in Utawala. The then Elder Titus Katembu had a calling and had expressed willingness to start a church. He was therefore, sent along with others to establish the first GCI branch church in Utawala area.
GCI Utawala was then started on Sunday 22nd January 2012 on a ½ acre piece of land that was donated temporarily by one of the GCI church elders. The church had a membership of about 50 members excluding children. The church members, by God’s grace, were able to contribute and raise funds to acquire its own 1 acre piece of land in 2014, where currently they are erecting a 2,000 seater Cathedral of Worship. The church has since grown gradually both spiritually and numerically with membership standing at about 200 including children. The church is located about 250 metres off the Eastern Bypass and next to Komarock Modern Healthcare (Hospital), Utawala.
